MATUSA (Municipal & Allied Trade Union of South Africa), was formed out of necessity to offer members satisfaction and accountability to Municipal and Allied works within the Local Government Sector. We are an independent trade union and genuinely controlled by workers, we have representatives and coordinators in all 9 provinces in South Africa.
Membership of the union shall be open to all workers employed, directly or indirectly, in local authorities and water utilities and allied undertakings of the economy whether in the public, private or voluntary sector.
To strive for economic, social and political justice for all members and in particular to democratise the workplace
To work for the achievement of a society based on economic, social and political justice and equality.
To oppose privatisation and to fight for the direct provision of all the basic necessities of life by the state at all its levels.
To work for the achievement for equal access by all to public services of good quality and that such users of public services are treated with dignity respect and equality irrespective of race, gender, creed, age disability or any arbitrary ground.

On 30th June 2020 King Cetshwayo District Municipality terminated the services of Water and Sanitation Services South Africa. As early as May 2020 MATUSA wrote to the municipality cautioning them that all staff of WSSA was entitled to be protected in terms of Section 197 of the LRA. Their brazen display of arrogance forced us to engage WSSA to challenge the KCDM .

The union’s financial year shall be the calendar year and all accounts of the union shall be audited annually by a registered auditor and accountant appointed by the CEC.
